Despite dire predictions of a complete absence of wind, the second Novice Helmsperson race of 2025 turned out to be a fantastic day out on the water; with the race positions changing with almost every lull or wind-shift, it was a close-fought battle across the fleet...
- with just 6 minutes (corrected time) seperating the top five places,
- and only another 10 minutes to see the rest of the fleet home....
Congratulations to our novice helmspersons for successfully navigating today's fluky winds with unexpected shifts and lulls - we hope that you'll keep coming back for more fun on the water with WYC.
Thanks also to the boat-owners who made this day possible and to the routine helmspersons who stood aside and mentored the next crop of WYC talent.
It was great to welcome Big Blue back after an extended absence (looking very flash sporting a hi-spec sail wardrobe) and also to see Giggity/Banjo (aka Identity Crisis 🤣) continuing to join the action.
Honourable mentions must go to;
- Marinka 2 for achieving their first top-four position,
- Charlie Amos as the youngest helmsperson of the day; performing incredibly well in-spite of her dad's (well-earnt) handicap - and all this after already winning her junior soccer game for Bally Magpies.
On a personal note, I'd like to say that it's great to see that over 60% of today's helmspersons were female; this can only be a good thing for the future diversity of our club and our sport.
