At WYC we have different pathways for you to start sailing or get back into sailing.

Sailing on the ocean is an exhilarating and exciting experience for new and experienced sailors. To experience ocean sailing with WYC, different pathways are provided to suit your level of experience. There’s a pathway for you to sail with WYC; with a program for experienced sailors to crew, a program for interested people wanting to experience sailing on the ocean and most importantly a program for those new to sailing to learn to sail keelboats on the ocean. All are suitable for persons over 16 years of age.

half day discover sailing experience - for first time sailors

Discover sailing for those new to sailing so that you can find out more about sailing.

Our qualified sailing instructors will take you on small keelboats to give you a taste of what sailing is all about. You will spend 3 hours learning basic sailing skills, terminology and boat handling manoeuvres.

Enjoy the unique opportunity to spend some time at sea and see Wollongong from a different perspective!

Learn to sail courses

Range of courses on learning to sail a small keelboat in the ocean.

The Start Crewing course is the first step on the Australian Sailing accredited pathway to learning to sail a small keelboat. It is an ideal course for adults and teenagers (16yrs+) who are looking to develop or improve their sailing skills. You do not need any prior experience. This is the best way to start sailing – on board from lesson one!

The Start Helming course is the next step on the Australian Sailing accredited pathway to learning to sail a small keelboat. It is an ideal course for adults and teenagers (16yrs+) who are looking to develop or improve their sailing skills.

The Start Skippering course is the next progressive step in the Australian Sailing accredited pathway and will now advance your sailing skills & safety knowledge to enable you to skipper a boat, unsupervised, in sheltered waters.

Already an experienced sailor and not a member yet, then start sailing at WYC by using SailPass so rather then a full membership you simply register for up to six days of your choice that you want to sail. Just go to Join Now
